Good News:
THE CENTRE WILL BE OPENING AGAIN ON THE 8th OF OCTOBER - MORE INFORMATION AND FULL PROGRAMMES COMING SOON !!
Sad story:
The last month was a very difficult and stresfull time for us all as we had to temporarily vacate and close down the Centre for safety reasons due to riots in the harbour and looting and serious damage to our building, as well as our already dire financial status having to take yet another knock.
It came just at a time when we were already going through a restructuring process in order to try and keep our doors open.
Since the previous riots and looting excactly a year ago the Harvest Centre was still running at a loss due to lost business and could already not sustain the project any more. It was kept going on a month to month basis through personal contributions from Helena - a source that is now also dried up.
We used the oportunity to do much needed repairs and engage in further consultation with various community leaders as to how they would like to be involved in the project and try to prioritise the little resources we have in a most constructive way.
Our most urgent mission now is to find some bridge funding till we can get back on our feet.
Duelin - one of our many success stories:
Duelin was recently the star of a SABC story in a series called "Children Behind the Rainbow".
The episode features him as a boy from a very challenged background who has turned his back on drugs and crime.
While attending classes at the Harvest Youth Centre, he has become one of our star performers - both as dancer and as musician on drums and marimba. You are an ispiration to many other boys Duelin and we are proud of you!
1st Place in Talent Competition:
We are once again proud of our motivated team and high energy performers!
Vandre and Keenan made first place with their combined Marimba and Percussion groups.
Thank you to the City Library for organising this event.
Mandela Day:

Harvest Youth Project celebrated Mandela Day with a performance at the Kronendal Hall event organised by Lalela.

"Spike P" wrote and performed a special song that was an instant hit, while Bboy Jeff's "Subject B" crew and Cuan's "VanBoomGang" entertained the audience with some high energy dancing and singing.
